CHS Reds Horseshoes

 Cedar Reds Horseshoe Team

(If you are ready to register scroll to the blue "Registration" button below.)

Cedar High was one of the first High School horseshoe teams in Utah, joining the 2018 UHSHL inaugural year.  By 2020, they had both a Varsity and JV team and were part of the only High School activities functioning in the USA during the pandemic!  The Reds have placed as high as 2nd in the UHSHL State finals - placing several students on the All-State list and as scholarship recipients.  The team home courts are world-class and are located at the Cedar Horseshoe Park, a little over a block east of the Fronteer Homestead State Park (675 N 150 E).

*Interested in giving back to your community?  Perhaps you are a parent of a CHS student who would like to participate on the team.  Coaches are volunteers committed to helping kids have a good time and learn a new skill. UHSHL will assist new coaches to get the lay of the land and obtain skills training for horseshoes.

Now let's get down to what High School Horseshoe Pitching is all about.
• Horseshoe Teams consist of ALL who would like to participate.
Everyone is welcome from those who may think they are not athletically gifted, on through the Basketball team captain.  Almost anyone can play horseshoes - and those who practice can learn to play it really well.

• Horseshoes is a "Club" Sport. (other club-sports you may be familiar with are Water Polo, Mountain Biking, and Hockey).

• Compared to other high school sports, Horseshoes is very affordable with registration/uniform/equipment expenses only ranging $100-150 total.

• Teams can be mixed players (boys and girls) 7th-12th grades.

• Team Practices begin in Mid-March (weather permitting) and are balanced around team member needs.

• Season matches run 6 weeks starting Early-April through Mid-May and are held on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, typically 5 PM.  Teams may play 0, 1, or 2 matches in a week depending on final scheduling.  Matches usually last 1 to 11/2 hours.

• Matches are held between two competing teams.  At a Match, each team will play their Top-5 ranked players (by skill) matched against the other team's Top-5.
(See more detail on Match Play)

• Cedar competes annually in a high stakes match against cross-town rival Canyon View for "The Hoof", a highly coveted traveling trophy awarded to the winning school.

• A State Championship Tournament is held in Mid-May crown the Utah High School State high school champion.

• Awards such as All-State Teams and Academic Scholarship opportunities are available.

Good Music, food, family, and friends are welcome at Matches.
