Now let's get down to what High School Horseshoe Pitching is all about.

• Your school's Horseshoes Team will be a "Club"-Sport. (other club-sports you may be familiar with are Water Polo, Mountain Biking, and Hockey).

• Horseshoe Teams consist of ALL who would like to participate.
Everyone is welcome from those who may think they are not athletically gifted, on through the Football team captain.  Almost anyone can play horseshoes - and those who practice can learn to play it really well.

• Season will run 6 weeks starting Early-April through Mid-May.

• Matches are held on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, typically 5 PM - teams may play 0, 1, or 2 matches in a week depending on final scheduling.  Matches usually last 1 to 11/2 hours.

• A State Tournament will be held on May 11 to crown the Utah High School State Champion.

• Awards such as All-State Team and Academic Scholarship opportunities are available.

"Matches” are held between two competing teams.  At a Match, each team will play their Top-5 ranked players (by ringer percent - skill) matched against the other team's Top-5.
(See more detail on Match Play)

• Teams can be mixed players (boys and girls).  As UHSHL expands, it is anticipated that Girls and Boys may split into their own championships and also that JV and other class teams will be added. Some school with large numbers of participants may form multiple teams (Team 1, Team 2, etc)

• Coaches can be parents, teachers, or other volunteer community members.

• Team uniforms will consist of, at minimum, a team jersey.

Good Music, food, family, and friends are welcome at Matches.

• Home Matches will be played at the nearest horseshoe court facility.  Five courts is optimal, but 3 can work (match will last a little longer).  Wherever possible Matches will be preferentially played on the nearest courts fully sanctioned by the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA).
