Juniors & Cadets

This page is all about our SUHPA Juniors and Cadets, both present and past.      Youth who pitch horseshoes are separated into three divisions based on age and gender.  The youngest are called "Cadets" and are 12yrs-old and younger.  Cadets can pitch from 20ft distance.  Most kids are able to pitch this distance by age 6, some earlier, some later. Often they use lighter-weight horseshoes that weigh as little as 1 to 1.5 pounds!      Youth 12-18 years old are called "Juniors" and are split into "Boys" and "Girls" divisions (though at all but our World and State Tournaments they pitch together and often are mixed in with the cadets).  Juniors can pitch from 30ft distance.  For girls, this is the distance they will pitch at the rest of their lives, boys will move up to 40ft the year they turn 19.
